About JC Strothers Elementary

Architectural Investments was selected to transform this abandoned school into 24 residential rental units financed with both low-income and historic tax credits. The project required coordination of Kentucky Housing Corporation guidelines and Historic Rehabilitation guidelines to achieve the owners’ objectives. Built in the late 1800s, the building had not been in use for many years. The rehabilitation required structural analysis and extensive work on the building’s exterior including replacement of the existing roof and all exterior trim work and repair of exterior glass. The interior space was redesigned to create an easily maintained facility attractive to potential tenants. Historical elements were saved according to guidelines. All electrical and mechanical systems were replaced. The $2.1 million renovation project further enhanced the redevelopment of a historic neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky.
